Bit of a confusing question but I don’t agree that the answer is D on Q5, I think it should be C

    Official guide says
‘Access personal voice mail using CUPC: CUPC can retrieve and process voice
messages from a voice messaging server. There are several interconnected steps that
must be configured to support the feature in CUPC, as follows:
    1. Define the Mailstore: In CUPS, navigate to Application > Cisco Unified
Personal Communicator > Mailstore and select Add New. Configure a Name
and IP address for the voice messaging server, optionally modifying the port
and protocol as appropriate for the messaging server deployment. This particular
configuration allows the use of IMAP to retrieve voice messages.’

So you have to define the mailstore before you can use IMAP to retrieve messages.

Q-1: Which two options are features in Cisco Unified Presence?(Choose two)

    A. IP Phone Messenger —————> Service
    B. Native Presence ——————–> Feature
    C. BLF speed-dial ———————-> i am sure its not
    D. Enterprise Instant Messaging —> Feature
    E. BLF speed-dial pickup ————-> i am sure its not

    For me answer is B,D

correct me plz if i am wrong…!!!

  16. Tony

Ah I got this. “Native Presence” is a feature of CUCM and not of CUP. See page 303-304 of the 640-481 book. You don’t need a CUPS server to have native presence in CUCM, its already there. All native presence does is monitors a DN, IP Phone, or users on-hook or off-hook status – no IM capability at all.

So by process of elimination answer to Q1 is A, D – and it even makes sense.

  17. sean

Q1 is definitely A & D but as MrX says, Q5 is not straightforward. The answer could probably be C AND D, but as they only ask you for one choice, I’d guess I’d go with C.

  18. sean

@Mr x, seems like the answer they’re looking for for this Q5 is D:

Cisco Unity creates a subscriber mailbox on the Microsoft Exchange server for use as its mailstore server for message storage.

When Cisco Unified Personal Communicator users want to listen to their voicemails, they use Cisco Unified Personal Communicator to retrieve them from the mailstore server through IMAP.

    Concerning question 5:
Which action must be taken for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients to access Cisco Unity Connection voice mail?

According to ICOMM vol 2 page 6-90, Cisco Unity Connection can be integrated with Cisco Unified Presense. End users can access their voice mailbox within the Conversation History pane in Cisco Unified Personal Communicator. Cisco Unifed Personal Communicator voice-mail integration uses IMAP to access the voice mailbox.

Q5: They try to trick you with the incorrect verbiage “Exchange mailbox store” when IMAP does communicate through an Exchange Server.

“When Cisco Unified Personal Communicator users want to listen to their voice mails, they use Cisco Unified Personal Communicator to retrieve them from the Exchange server. Cisco Unified Personal Communicator does not directly communicate with the Cisco Unity server. Instead, it connects to the Exchange server through IMAP.”

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cupc/1_2/english/installation/guide/servrec.html

    Correct answer should be D.
IMAP must be enabled on Cisco Unity Connection for users that need to access voice mail through Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients.

We have a bunch of theories, but does someone know the actual answer to Q5? The first time I went through the dumps, I chose answer C, but it said that it was incorrect, that D was the correct answer. I chose C because users at my job access their VM through Outlook and we have Cisco Unity Connection in place. It was already in place before I started with the company so it wasn’t something that I set up.

Watching the cbt nugget video, Jeremy also mentions Microsoft Exchange integration with Cisco Unity Connection, which also lead me to believe that C was the correct answer.

    Hi guys.

    ======================================================
    Question 5
Which action must be taken for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients to access Cisco Unity Connection voice mail?

    CORRECT ANSWER
    D. IMAP must be enabled on Cisco Unity Connection for users that need to access voice mail through Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients.

    ======================================================

    Explanation:

Secure Voicemail Messaging on Cisco Unity Connection

Cisco Unity Connection provides audio for secure voicemail messages through a special IMAP port, port 7993. This port requires Transport Layer Security (TLS). Cisco Unified Personal Communicator uses this port to access, download, and play the secure message.

IMAP: Make sure that the IMAP port and protocol are configured. You configure the IMAP port and protocol when you specify the mailstore server name and address.

Cisco Unified Presence Administration > Application > Cisco Unified Personal Communicator > Mailstore

Which action must be taken for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients to access Cisco Unity Connection voice mail?

    A. Cisco Unity Connection must be integrated with LDAP. –This is wrong because it says “must” be integrated with LDAP. We know that is flash, it does not HAVE to be integrated with LDAP.

    B. Cisco Unity Connection must be integrated with Cisco Unified Communications Manager using SIP integration. —- again it says it “Must” be integrated using SIP and again not true.

    C. A Microsoft Exchange mailbox store must be configured in Cisco Unified Presence. —This one is wrong because not everyone runs on Microsoft…so this answer is wrong.

    D. IMAP must be enabled on Cisco Unity Connection for users that need to access voice mail through Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients. — So obviously the other answers are wrong so this must be it….well yes, but this “Must” answer is correct because no matter what IMAP MUST be enabled.

    E. Voice mail is automatically enabled for users who log in through Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients.—- Automaticly enabled…really…don’t think so.

answer to Q1 is A&D. as Tony pointed out, Native Presences is NOT a feature of CUP, it is a feature of Communications Manager

  38. diesel
    July 27th, 2012

hence the naming convention “Native Presence” it is native to communications manager, and does not require an additional application

  39. KT
    August 4th, 2012

Q1 is A,D. I don’t believe Presence in CUP is referred to as ‘Native’.

Q5 is D. Voice messages in Cisco Unity Connection are essentially emails with audio content. IMAP must be used to access the audio emails in Cisco Unified Personal Communicator.

The answer to question 5 is D.

This is what the CCNA Ebook says:

” Access personal voice mail using CUPC: CUPC can retrieve and process voice

must be configured to support the feature in CUPC, as follows:
    1. Define the Mailstore: In CUPS, navigate to Application > Cisco Unified

I can see everyones confusion with this question:

Which action must be taken for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients to access Cisco Unity Connection voice mail?

At 1st I would have answered with:

    D. IMAP must be enabled on Cisco Unity Connection for users that need to access voice mail through Cisco Unified Personal Communicator clients.

However if you really read what Cisco are asking here, this is focused at clients wanting voicemail access and if you ready the CCNA Voice study guide it explictly states:

    1. Define The Mailstore – (Within CUPS) This particular configuration allows the use of IMAP to retrieve voice messages.

Based on this above I have to agree with voicetut go with:

    C. A Microsoft Exchange mailbox store must be configured in Cisco Unified Presence.

Anyone who disagrees should read the Cisco literature.

This question is answered differently across the dumps I have studied. Sometimes it really pays to read the book!
